ROLE PLAY & BODY LANGUAGE

At the workplace role play and body language plays an important role as it tells many things about your personality to anyone who observes you. Role play is the act of performing a certain role like I have the role of programmer in my early IT career. Whereas Body language is the tone of our body sometimes when you are feeling lazy, active, angry, etc than anyone can know it by just observing your body language and facial expressions. We can improve these skills by just remembering certain things about it. Let us discuss some of these topics which I have also personally experienced in my professional life.

DO’S

  • HAVE A OPEN POSTURE: When you have an open posture then people think that you are an active, fast-paced, and energetic person. To have an open posture you should not tightly place your hands into your pockets and also you should avoid wearing tight clothes because somehow they also restrict you from feeling free to talk.
  • USE A FIRM HANDSHAKE: Using a firm handshake as a greeting is a form of kindliness and amiableness. I think in corporate and businesses, a handshake is a formal type of greeting, and whenever we handshake a person then that person will be completely focused and concentrated on us and this will be the most favorable time to deliver our thoughts to that person.
  • MAINTAIN GOOD EYE CONTACT: As we know that making good eye contact helps us to show ourselves more dedicated and friendly to the other person. If we use good eye contact while handshake then I am pretty sure that the other person can’t ignore you from its mind and this will make your personality more visible to others.
  • AVOID TOUCHING YOUR FACE: Touching your face, again and again, shows that you are distracted from the situation and the other person will not consider you for any active role. So my advice for you is that you should never do things that show you are distracted.
  • SMILE: Smiling is a must because it shows that you have a positive attitude, optimistic thoughts, and faith in life. As we know a smile is contagious, if you smile on your face then others will also smile when they see you. My personal opinion is you should use a smile in place of saying hii in your formal living and then see the results by yourself.

DON’T

  • BITE NAILS: Biting your nails is a very disgusting activity whether done in a public or private place. If you also find someone who bites your nail then you too don’t want to talk with that person. If you have a habit to bite your nail then you can get rid of it by just cutting the nail frequently with a proper nail cutter.
  • LOCKED ANKLES: Others may feel not good while talking with you if you have placed your ankles in a locked manner. They may feel that you are too much silly and careless in your professional life too. You can avoid this thing by just placing your ankles in a straight manner which shows that you are active and eager to talk.
  • RAPID BLINKING: You should avoid rapid blinking while talking as it may cause other people to feel that you are less communicative as rapid eye blinking completely prevents and block your eye contact. If you have a habit of rapid eye blinking then you can change it by focusing on a certain object for a long time.
  • TAPPING/ DRUMMING FINGERS: Tapping and drumming your fingers on any surface makes other persons anxious, nervous, and distracting from their work. I remember how it feels when someone does this and you can’t do anything except get distracted from your work. People should avoid doing this.
  • FIDGETING: It is an act to keep moving your body, hands, or feet because you are nervous, bored, excited, etc besides this sometimes peoples also do this because they treat themselves like Leonardo DiCaprio of Inception movie. If you are in an interview and the interviewer watches you doing such things then definitely you will have to pay indirectly for this, I hope you understand. You can get rid of it by just remembering the fact that you acquired this habit over time so you can also get out of it by trying not to do it for a long time.
