PRACTICE ON ORAL/ SPOKEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS & TESTING
Let’s discuss how you can practice your oral or spoken communication skills. So first of all let us understand what is oral communication skills, oral communication refers to the process of communication while using sound produced through our throat example talking. Let us discuss some of the tips and tricks you can use to become a fluent expert in oral communication.
- THINK BEFORE SPEAKING: Always think before your speak, sharp and precise your thoughts, focus on delivery, and don’t forget to maintain a sales pitch while talking. If you don’t do then people may feel disconnected from you and starts getting bored.
- UNDERSTAND YOUR AUDIENCE: It is a good practice to understand your audience and follow their pace. Many times when anchors don’t go with the audience then it results in a boring lecture and it also makes the audience angry.
- BE MINDFUL OF YOUR TONE: Having a sense of your tone is a must because you should talk to the audience in a very polite manner. Sometimes anchors in reality shows also do the mistake to talk aggressively and they have to pay for it later in their careers so be mindful of your tone.
- PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BODY LANGUAGE: Active body language makes your audience active too. If the speaker moves with his/her speech then the audience will also listen to it carefully and behave actively with the speaker.
- USE CONCISE LANGUAGE: As we discussed earlier that how precise and sharp thoughts work, similarly the process of precise and sharpening your thoughts would lead to a concise language formation which means your speech has a brief and concrete essence.
- EMPLOY ACTIVE LISTENING: When you listen to others actively then you get some of the keywords which are close to them and you can impress them by using these keywords in your speech too. For example, when I was in my college when I was in an interview for final project submission I used this trick since the interviewer was my profession and he has a habit of saying definitely after yes like “yes, definitely” like Commandant Erik Lessard of the Police Academy movie. So I used this trick and get good marks and that’s why you should also use it.
- SPEAK WITH CONFIDENCE: Confidence makes all difference, you don’t know anything but still, if you say every line confidently then no one can stop you. But as we all know confidence comes with practice as great powers come with great responsibilities, so you should practice a lot to deliver your speech with confidence.
- SHOW YOUR AUTHENTIC SELF: People will trust you only when you show your authentic self till then they feel you are only interested in your benefits. To show yourself as an authentic person you should go with a more connecting self-introduction in the beginning, so that people will feel that you are on their side and you are a genuine person.
- PRACTICE YOUR SKILLS: As I always say confidence comes with practice and that is why you always need to practice your skills because it is like an antibiotic prescription, one day you don’t take the medicine the whole hard work goes waste.
- GAIN FEEDBACK: The more you gain feedback the more you know about your weak and strong points and by working on them you will achieve your goal in front of any audience no matter how big, small, sensitive, or confidential your presentation is. So always remember all these tips and tricks to become the best oral speaker.
